NOTD: Essence nail art special effect topper in Circus Confetti

I'm sorry but I have to say that I think this product is over-hyped. It's aparently a good dupe for Deborah Lippmann's Happy Birthday. I really like glitter nail polish even though they're difficult to take off. I like my glitter polish to almost be opaque. On the picture I'm wearing 5 (!) coats of Circus Confetti on my nails without a topcoat. It's not opaque at all, not even close. The formula is quite thick with unfortunalely not as much glitters as I expected and you really have to ''place'' the glitters on your nails. On the other hand I paid €1,79 for this polish so I can't really complain about quality.

Have you tried any of the new nail art special effect toppers from Essence?

Does anyone have any tips for taking off glitter nail polish?

Hot or not? Crackle nail polish

OPI, China Glaze, Barry M, Essence, and probably many more brands have a crackle nail polish in their collection. A nail polish that somehow shatters apart and makes your nails look like your polish cracked.

Do you like it or not? Why? Do you own a crackle polish? If so, from which brand?

I like it, it gives a cool effect to your nails and it’s a style which I actually think looks good on my short nails. I bought the Barry M Instant Nails Effects when I was in London and I’ll do a NOTD and review soon.

Beauty on a Budget: Essence Silky Touch Blush, 30 Secret It-girl

Looking beautiful doesn’t have to cost you a lot. In Beauty on a Budget I’ll share with you my favourite budget beauty products and I’ll review them for you.

Colour/Formula:
Secret It-girl is a peachy-orange, with shimmer. A lovely quite neutral colour. It’s actually quite pigmented, I still remember the old blushes from Essence, which weren’t pigmented. I really had to swirl my brush into the pan and I hit pan in no time. This blush is not like that at all.

Packaging:
Clear plastic, looks cheap but hey, it is cheap!

Price/Quality:
This blush costs €2,49 for 5 grams of product, a bargain and brands like Essence are often on sale.

Overall:
+ Really cheap
+ Good colour pay-off
+ Often on sale
- Only 4 colours available
- No matt colours available

Do you buy a lot of drugstore brand make-up? Which brands do you like?

NOTD: Seventeen 266 with Essence Nail Art Twin in 02 Julia

When I was at Liza's I also painted my nails with one of her nail polishes she bought in Greece and I couldn't resist adding an accent on my ring finger. The polishes I used were Seventeen’s 266 (a neon purple with a cream finish) and Essence's Nail Art Twins in 02 Julia (a silver with multi-colour duo chrome glitter topcoat). I really like this combination of bright-in-your-face purple and silver glitter. I also just really love accent nails.
The 266 by Seventeen was opaque in just two coats, and when I was applying the Esscen glitter topcoat I thought I would hate it. It looked really thick and not a whole lot of glitter came off, but I could quite easily add a bit more glitter and it was dry sooner than I thought. Now I actually really love the polish because it doesn’t feel al rough when you touch the nail, which you sometimes have with glitter polishes and I hate that. This one actually feels quite smooth. I really love this look, at work today this little boy kept staring at my nails and told me they were pretty! So cute!

What about you, do you like accent nails?

EOTD: Navy Blue Smokey Eye

So like you've probably already read in the last post, Liza and I came together today and did each others make-up. On Liza I did a navy blue smokey eye because she wanted to try-out her new eyeshadow. She will do a review on the eyeshadow soon.

Products used: Etos Eyeshadow base, Lancôme Crayon Khôl Noir 1, Catrice Absolute Eye Colour 180 Ocean's 14, Essence Quattro Eyeshadow 01 Ciao Bella (darkest brown), Bourjois Trio D'ombres Les Bruns Cuivres 41, Essence Black Liquid eyeliner, Estée Lauder Sumptuous Bold Volume Lifting Mascara.

I think this really goes well with her green eyes. It's not too heavy and you can add extra drama to the look by adding false lashes. Hope you like this look.

How-to: Accent nails (Black & Gold)

The latest hype: accent nails. TiffanyD did a video and blogpost on them NikkieTutorials had accent nails in her last video, so of course I needed to try it out. Accent nails is painting all your nails in a simple colour except for your ring finger, on that nail you paint a crazy, glittery, shimmery colour, a colour that really stands out. You could also do it with a different finger but I like it best on the ring finger, since I never wear rings this is a nice alternative. This is what I came up with:

This is how I did it:
1. Paint a base coat over all your nails to prevent staining. I used a really cheap drugstore one from Etos.
2. Paint all your nails in a simple colour, except for your ‘’accent nail’’. I decided to go with black, I used a cheap drugstore brand called Essence, colour 20 Fatal. I needed 2 coats to make it opaque.
3. Paint your accent nail in a crazy, glittery, shimmery colour. I used OPI’s Rising Star from their Burlesque collection. A lovely bronze gold colour.

It’s a piece of cake!
Do you like/love/hate this? Will you try this out? If you do post in a link in the comments, I would love to see your take on this!
